What is actually a "proper" education?
The flexible style of education is basically a mixture of the different styles of education with its emphasis on the democratic style of education.
An important feature is that the education happens depending on the situation. Thus it may be that in certain situations authoritarian action takes place with clear rules and in other situations a democratic decision is made as to which educational measures are to be taken. It may also be the case that things are coordinated, discussed and decided on an equal basis, and decisions are taken by the parents on their own.
The big advantage of the flexible educational style is therefore that the educator can act in a situation-adapted manner and does not have to proceed according to a strict educational pattern. Depending on the existing conflict and depending on the situation, sometimes a stricter, sometimes looser problem solving can be done. Overall, the parents show great interest in their child and still leave enough room for them to be able to act independently and creatively.
As in all areas of life, including norms and values, conditions and beliefs have changed and evolved. Until the 1960s, the focus was on ideas such as discipline, duty and obedience. There has been a change of values and emancipation, autonomy (independence, self-determination), self-realization, the ability to criticize, self-responsibility, etc. are emphasized today.
Nevertheless, one should not follow extremes, but turn on common sense, use his sensitivity and also his so-called "gut feeling" (intuition) and sensitize to give the child the best possible education. A good mix of educational styles, with a focus on democratic parenting, is probably the right solution - and an attitude that is one of love and warmth without being pampered and boundless.
